     Gomukhasana | Cow face pose

This name comes from the Sanskrit words Go meaning “cow”, Mukha  meaning “head” or “mouth” and the Asana meaning “posture” or “seat”. This asana targets your hips and your shoulders – two of the most common sites for chronic pain and tension in the body This asana stretches several parts of the body simultaneously, including ankles, thighs, hips, chest, neck, arms and hands 

         Precaution of gomukhasana

    • Don’t attempt this Asana in case of Neck, knee,hip and shoulders injury.
    • Don’t fasten your hands behind the back.Don’t go beyond over your abilities.
    • Beginners often have a difficult time getting both sitting bones to rest evenly on the floor, which can make it difficult for the knees to stack on top of each other evenly. When the pelvis is tilted, the spine can't properly extend. Use a folded blanket or bolster to lift the sitting bones off the floor and support them evenly.
    • People suffering from bleeding piles should avoid this asana. 

           Procedure of gomukhasana

    • Sit on the floor with legs extended in front of you.
    • Fold the left leg and place it under the right buttocks
    • Fold the right leg, and place it on top of the left thighs.
    • The knees of both the legs should be close to each other, one above the other.
    • Bend your left arm and place it behind the back.
    • Bend your right arm, take it over the right shoulders and place it on the back as far as it can go.
    • Now try to touch the two hands behind the back. Initially you may be able to just touch the fingers. Later as you develop flexibility, you will be able to catch the left hand with the right hand.
    • Keep the truck erect and expand your chest. Also pull the head a little to the back.
    • Maintain this position for as long as comfortable. In the final position, breathe normally and deeply, with awareness on the breath.
