India celebrates National Girl Child Day today, 24th Jan, and on this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the nation to reaffirm their commitment to challenging stereotypes based on gender. He has asked each one of us to promote gender sensitization and fight for gender gender equality.
He also tweeted his thoughts and reiterated that National Girl Child Day is an occasion to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the girl child. He said we all should acknowledge their excellence in multiple fields and the fact that they continue to make us proud.
He repeated what he has maintained all along that –
“It is imperative to reject discrimination against the girl child and ensure equal opportunities for the girl child. Let us reaffirm our commitment to challenging stereotypes based on gender & promote gender sensitisation as well as gender equality,”
The occasion shall be marked by the release of National Plan of Action for Children 2016. Ten districts under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme for their exemplary performance will also be felicitated today.
